Housing Discussions
Housing is a complicated issue with many facets. From September 3 to October, the Ogden City Council will host four discussions on Housing in Ogden and encourage residents to participate.
Each session will take place in the Council Chambers on the third floor of the Municipal Building and will begin at 7pm.
Listed below is the detailed schedule and topics for the discussions. Information from each discussion, such as studies and presentations, will be provided on this page once available.
Schedule and Topics
September 3, 2019 - Ogden's Current Approach
The first discussion covered the foundation of housing, including an explanation of definitions, a look at national and local trends, and what is and what is not within Ogden City's control.
In addition, Ogden City's Community and Economic Development Department explained its philosophy regarding housing and described what the City has been doing in this arena for decades. The discussion included overviews of housing programs such as Own in Ogden and the Quality Neighborhoods Initiative, the amount of the City's investment, and successes throughout the years.

September 10, 2019 - Current Data
The Ogden Civic Action Network (OgdenCAN) presented its Housing Report during the second discussion. An overview of the Utah Foundation Report and the Ogden Moderate Income Housing Report were also provided.

September 24, 2019 - Addressing the Issues
Council staff members will present their extensive research on methods other communities across the country have implemented to address the affordable housing crisis, including methods that Ogden residents have recommended to the Council.

October 29, 2019 - Where do we go from here?
The final discussion oncluded a brief overview of the topics presented in previous sessions. Presenters of those topics were available to answer questions and provide clarification.
On October 1, 2019, Cameron Diehl, the Executive Director of the Utah League of Cities and Towns (ULCT), presented to the Council and Administration how Ogden City compares to other cities in the state of Utah when it comes to housing.

After receiving input from the experts and constituents about housing in Ogden, the Council will assess whether or not they are comfortable with the current direction of the City, if they need more information in order to determine which direction to take, or if they wish to take a new direction.
No formal action regarding housing will be taken during these discussions.
